ABOUT THE MBA
The MBA was founded in 2001 by a small group of business owners in downtown Mattawan. Breakfast meetings occurred in restaurants around the local area. The first official meeting to determine the type of organization the MBA would be was held on Sept. 23, 2002. At that meeting officers were elected to a 6-month term and they were:
1. President Lori Anthony (Lori’s Web Design)
2. Vice President Kim Cox (MPI Research)
3. Treasurer John Jackson (Rusty Rabbit)
4. Secretary Mike Moran (Village Manager)
5. Trustee Rob Korkeourin (Modern Woodmen of America)
6. Trustee Kayla Ranger-Dean (Mattawan Chiropractic Clinic)
7. Trustee Dawn Kobreek (Rhino Refrigeration/Power Engineering and Supply)
At that time meetings were held the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7:15 am at Mattawan Village Hall.
On December 10, 2002 Non profit papers were filed with the state and the MBA became an official non profit entity.
From 2002 to today the MBA has grown and evolved and continues to do so. With each new member comes a fresh set of eyes and ideas. A few of the things the MBA has been involved with include:
- Hosting a Holiday Extravaganza which members have a FREE space to promote their product/business
- Contributed to the building of the stage in the Village Park
- Creating marketing pieces to be distributed to showcase Mattawan
- Creation of a Community web site that features; answers from the expert’s board, community calendar, classifieds, business listings and much more.
- Provided costumed characters in Christmas Parade.
- Networking opportunities for local businesses, through board meetings and after hours events.
- Hosting a Member recognition dinner and silent auction
- A quarterly newsletter shared and distributed with the Village of Mattawan
- Creating a $500 scholarship in the memory of local soldiers that have been killed in the Iraq conflict.
It is again with new members that new ideas are brought to the table and blossom. Join the MBA today, share your ideas with us and watch them bloom. This benefits not only you but also the organization as a whole. Remember the saying “it takes a Village”, together we will build and promote a prominent and successful organization.
