Meeting Minutes
January 7, 2009
 
 

Meeting was called to order at 12:08 pm

 
Attendance: Lori, Linda, Lauren, Dawn, Jean, Kayla, Tom and Laura. Kathy was excused from the meeting due to other business issues.
 
Approval of the agenda: motion by Kayla, supported by Jean Motion Carries
 
Approval of the minutes of December 3, 2008: motion by Kayla, supported by Jean Motion Carries
 
Treasurers report: Kayla noted that she had not received the December bank statement as of yet but amounts were from the books she has kept. She reported a balance of $344.16 in checking and $5524.98 in the money market account.
 

New Business

Projects/events for 2009 – Lori noted that she felt it important to discuss events and projects that the board would like to do for 2009 and opened the floor for discussion.

  1. Holiday Extravaganza – the issue of a day was discussed and it was decided to go again with a Thursday. A date of December 3rd was chosen and a time from 4 to 8 pm. Promotional items were discussed such as yard signs, posters, school newsletters, flyers, press releases, psa’s and flashes ads. A grand prize giveaway and/or contests were also discussed to promote further interest.
  2. Appreciation dinner – motion made by Linda supported by Kayla to set the date for September 21st with cocktails at 6 pm and dinner at 7pm, motion carried. Board members will work on speaking with non-profits early in the year to garner more interest. It was also decided to place the event on the June agenda to begin planning. Lori suggested that perhaps some board members might wish to form a committee to plan this event.
  3. Tom will speak with school about scholarship fund and discussion for fund will be placed on the February agenda.
  4. Discussion was also held on how to promote the organization and get more members. Linda volunteered to speak with several businesses about joining the MBA. A survey or focus meeting should be considered to discuss the issue specifically. Lori mentioned an after hours meeting just to do that. Membership renewal reminders should also be mailed.
 

Newsletter – the newsletter will feature the upcoming events, MBA business of the quarter “ValentinoWalker Murals and Decorative Painting”, any Valentine specials members may have and the web site address. Meeting location and times are also mentioned in each issue.
