Meeting Minutes
April 11, 2007
 
 
The meeting was called to order at 12:10 pm at Main St Pub
 
Attendance: Lori, Mike, Kayla, Dawn, Kristine, Tom, Kim and Kathy
 
Guests in attendance: John Jeannot, Scott Hutchins and Margot Bemer
 
Additions to the agenda: Tom Brown asked to add a scholarship from the MBA to the agenda. It will be added as item #2 under new business.
 
Approval of the agenda: Motion by Kim, supported by Dawn, MSC
 
Approval of the minutes of Feb 7, 2007 – Motion by Kim, supported by Kayla to approve the minutes, MSC. No minutes were available for March, as there was not a quorum at the March meeting.
 
Bills to be paid: A bill in the amount of $94.99 was submitted by Lori’s web design for the hosting and domain renewal of the mattawan.org site. Motion by Mike, support by Tom to pay the bill, MSC
 
Treasurers Report: Mike handed out copies of the latest report. The Feb balance for the MBA was $7,781.17
 
Request from Mattawan PD school liaison officer: Officer Hutchins requested help from the MBA for his school programs. The police department has a tips line in which students may report illegal activities anonymously. If the tip is legitimate there is a monetary award given to the tipster. Scott also showed the MBA items that he hands out to kids and his box is getting low. A motion was made by Mike and supported by Kathy to donate $300 to the Mattawan Police Department to assist with these programs. New Business
 
1.    New addition to web site – Lori noted that the MBA web site now has an “ask the experts” board and noted that several business owners were utilizing the board.
2.    Scholarship program – Tom Brown asked the board to consider a scholarship in remembrance of local soldiers killed in the Iraqi conflict. The board discussed the scholarship a motion was made by Kim, supported by Kathy to provide a $500 a year scholarship as money allows MSC. A name was discussed for the scholarship and a motion was made by Tom supported by Mike to call the scholarship the Freedom Memorial Scholarship, MSC. Tom will talk with the school in regards to the scholarship.
 
Old Business
 
1.    Flyer card – Lori noted that the Miami Flyer special for $50 has ended. The new special is $80 for 5000 4” x 6” cards.
2.    Newsletter – The village would like to have the newsletter information from the MBA by April 23rd. The newsletter will be 8 ½” x 14” and will be mailed to every utility paying customer in Mattawan. The MBA portion of the mailer is $150. Lori called out for suggestions to put in the newsletter. Ideas included: current list of members, how to join, benefits, things the MBA have done, web site address, and meeting info. The Village also decided to open the “name the newsletter” contest up to the whole community.
3.    Logo for MBA – the board liked the logo submitted by Lonnie of Raven Computer Service with one change, keep the state but add an M to Mattawan. Motion by Mike supported by Kristine to adopt this logo, MSC.
4.    Memorial Bricks for the park – The bricks have been ordered and will be here in time for the Memorial Day parade and ceremony.
