January 6, 2010 Meeting Minutes

  1. Meeting called to order at 12:05 pm at Main St Pub
  2. Attendance:  Lori, Lauren, Kayla, Dawn, Amelia, Jean, Kathy, Don, Terri, ed Case, Josh Diani, Alex Hatfield,
  3. Approval of the minutes of November 4, 2009 - Motion by Kayla, supported by Don - MSC
  4. Treasurers Report - Kayla presented the monthly report, and reminded everyone that dues for 2010 were due and needed to be turned in.
  5. Old Business
    a.  Holiday extravaganza wrap up - overall was a big success, better than last year.  Advertising was great and look to get at least 1/2 of the yard signs back.
    b. Newsletter content - no new ideas submitted.
  6. New Business (MBA ideas for 2010)
    a.  Would like to have the community pick citizen of the year this year for fall appreciation dinner in hopes of getting more community involvement.  Start nominations in May.  Making nominations can be done by web site or at some of the local businesses.  Advertising can be done in the Hometown Gazette and Courier Leader.  These nominations are open to the  general public.  Once nominations are completed, voting will take place from those nominated and the award will be presented at the dinner.
    b. Discussion to get schools involved in holiday parade.  The high schools may have floats to use.  The holiday parade is a village event and not an MBA event so it is up to the Village to promote.
    c. Golf Outing - 1st Community Credit Union is interested in sending out bids to golf courses for an MBA golf outing.  Possibly in early summer.
    d. 5k run/dog walk - would need liability insurance.  Suggested forming a committee for combo 5k run/walk and dog walk.  Charities to donate funds to would be the School booster club and the SPCA.  This would be a 1-day event.  Amelia and Don are interested in heading committee
    e. Possible pig roast
    f. Car show
    g. Fireworks - big work involved is finding a location
  7. Overview of yearly MBA events and services
    a. Holiday extravaganza
    b. Christmas parade and tree lighting - would like to help promote parade more, helpers for costumed characters
    c. Web site - the site has been updated
    d. Appreciation dinner - swet for Sept 22nd, 2010
    e. Silent auction - would like to continue for this year
    f. Tributes to local citizens and business for excellence in the community.  Lori will see if Tonya is available for 2010 dinner. 
    g. Scholarship to high school student - continues in 2010
    h. Mattawan Community Guide sent out in Spring and Fall
